... and now for something completely different....
My sister, Helen, was opening a bottle of prosecco at close range (about 4") and the cork and wire hit her in the eye. She called her son who rang 999 and was told to take her straight to hospital. Who told him to take her straight to the eye hospital in Bristol. Where she's been for a week. At first they said she might lose her sight AND the eye, then they said they didn't know. Etc. Each doctor had a different story. The last one said she mustn't move or move her eye until it recovers.
4 days later:
I've been looking after her since she came out of hospital, I'd assumed 3-4 days but it'll be 3 weeks, this time. It's dire. She can't believe how unlucky she's been:
Polio as a child left her with a useless right arm
Her second hip operation went wrong and left her with the disabling condition Foot Drop, which means she can't lift her foot and she has to wear a contraption to walk.
Driving a car for years and turning in a small no exit road for years has torn her shoulder muscle, which she won't have operated on as that would leave her totally disabled whilst she recovered.
So she bought a new car.
Three days later she was blinded in one eye.
Her 'good' eye is only 50% functional.
Is that enough God? If you can hear me: what the fuck are you playing at?
But of course others have it far worse. Judy is so ill with cancer, yet always manages to smile that I'm humbled. Seb is an angel who adores her and the light that shines out from their love is difficult to describe.
