Xiamen Island

Yes, I'm now thinking about China. Specially Xiamen. It's a small island and has the highest density of pianos in China. When you walk down the street you can always hear pianos being played. Isn't that lovely?

I was told this by a sweet Chinese girl on the train. She asked if she could interview me about a dog product she was going to investigate for her course - interactive design. The design was - wait for it - for you to press one button on the dogs leash if it pees and another if it craps. Thus enabling you to know how often it went and help you see if it had any bladder problems etc. Crazy no? I was very polite and explained why it wasn't appropriate for me and suggested it may be more useful to have something linked to your phone to tell you where your dog was if you couldn't find it, i.e."500m south east" of where you are.

This is one of the pianos in the piano museum in Xiamen. I think it will fit in our small flat really well:

Yesterday I was talking to Annemarie - our teacher and John, an ex-teacher, at a short course (shorter than expected as I became ill and only went to 1 out of 3 days) who were telling of their different experiences in China. Apparently the Chinese don't like blondes as they remind them of ghosts. Annemarie's boyfriend was spat at and people shouted at him, and small children cried. So I am never going to go there.
