Basketry Techniques

Am utterly baffled by French Randing. I'm using this weave with a willow basket I'm wrestling with. It's so frustrating that it's making me never want to do it again once this course is over. Shame. But I'll plod on as usual and end up with yet another wonky basket. I mean, where DO all this damn bits go? This isn't what I'd hoped for when I embarked on this course. I'd assumed we'd be making baskets all the time, for two years, ending up turning out objects that looked exactly as we'd planned. Silly me. I love our classes with Mary (Butcher), she's a wonderful teacher and artist. It's me.

And I'm also struggling with a complicated cane and bamboo basket which I'm making at Kingsgate Workshop. But am less worried about that as I can get lots of help from Polly (Pollock), who's a wonderful teacher. Looking at this photo I can see that, yet again, I'll feel I have to undo the last few bits that I did last week. After I'd undone the week before's work.....  But I'm pretty sure that eventually it'll be fine.
